Thinking Matters is a Kiwi apologetics network geared towards lay Christians. The journal is its biannual publication, with articles covering a range of topics—from the practical difficulties of witnessing, to current events, to faith, knowledge, reason, and morality. The journal is available free of charge here, is syndicated through RSS, and each issue can downloaded in PDF format as well.
In addition to the journal, Thinking Matters runs a blog called Talk, where discussion is encouraged around regular articles, between people of all beliefs. You’re welcome to join us there.
Why?
Our purpose at Thinking Matters is to examine and explain the defense of the Christian faith in ways which won’t baffle people who don’t have degrees in philosophy. We aim to address the pressing need to equip New Zealand’s Christians to be always prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks for a reason for the hope within us (1 Peter 3:15). In a society increasingly enamored with pluralism, post-modernism, and spiritualism (and increasingly hostile to Christianity), it’s important for us to understand what we believe and why—and to be able to share the gospel convincingly with our unbelieving neighbors, showing our faith to be rational and true.

Doctrinal Position
Thinking Matters is largely Reformed, but because of its inter-denominational nature it does not stringently insist upon a thoroughgoing Reformed theology. Broadly speaking, the following doctrines are maintained as necessary and true, and Thinking Matters will always uphold them to the exclusion of all else:
- The Bible’s inerrancy.
- God’s trinity and aseity.
- Christ’s full divinity and humanity.
- That salvation is only by faith in Christ, a gift of God’s grace and not of human effort.
- That Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead, whereupon the faithful will be ushered into the new kingdom, and the unfaithful will be thrown into eternal hell.
A more complete doctrinal statement exists in The Aberdeen Declaration. Please refer to this for further information.
